The Experience

Before You Go

Go early and stay late

Morning and sunset safaris are when predators and grazers are most active—bring layers for cool mornings and a headlamp for returning to the lodge.

Bring binoculars and a telephoto

Open vehicles give great views but animals can still be distant—binoculars (8x–10x) and a 200mm+ lens improve shots and sightings.

Hydrate and pack snacks

Although meals are provided, safaris are long; carry a refillable water bottle and small snacks for energy between stops.

Follow your guide’s rules

Stay in the vehicle unless invited out, keep voices low and don’t attempt to approach or feed wildlife for safety and conservation.

Local Knowledge

Hidden Gems

  • Lone Creek Falls picnic spot near Sabie for a quieter waterfall experience

Conservation Note

Operators work with park rules to minimize impact—stay on roads, don't feed animals and support local guides who use low-impact practices.

Kruger evolved from early conservation proclamations into the national park system in the early 20th century and carries a legacy of wildlife protection tied to both colonial and local land-use histories.
